Now in its seventh year together, the ALEX MERRITT QUARTET has developed a unique and exciting group sound and approach that can be clearly heard whether the band are playing Alex’s original material or standards. The music draws on a diverse range of influences. From within contemporary classical music Alex’s music draws inspiration from composers such as Henri Dutilleux, Bela Bartok, Alban Berg and the 2nd Viennese School as well as a large pool of influences from the jazz canon notably Warne Marsh, Joe Henderson and John Coltrane.

The MATTHEW SULZMANN QUINTET showcases several of London’s brighest and most exciting rising jazz stars. Comprising Billy Marrows (Tom Barford’s Asterope, Dankworth Award 2015), Will Barry (Jasper Hoiby’s Fellow Creatures), Flo Moore (Barry Green Sextet), and Dave Storey (James Allsopp, Martin Speake), the band sound is characterised by the distinctive pairing of soprano sax and guitar frontline. With a strong influence taken from Britain’s rich jazz tradition, the group delivers sweeping lyrical melodies set against a lush harmonic palette.
