Expectations are turned on their head in an evening of Polish tango songs and Argentinian klezmer. A fascinating programme of soul music from two continents that has stood the test of time is brought to you by an ensemble with well over a century’s experience at the top levels of world music and jazz.

In the 1920s and ‘30s, tango was all the rage in Poland, and many of Poland’s best-known composers and performers of tango were Jewish. Whilst the music of Argentina had migrated eastwards, discs recorded in Buenos Aires in the 1940s and 50s reveal a demand for the eastern European Jewish music that we now call klezmer. Here we present a selection of our favourite tunes and songs in Polish and Yiddish, along with stories that we have uncovered about their creators and performers.

Featuring Ilana Cravitz (violin), Sarha Moore (alto sax), Yair Schleider (accordion), Julia Doyle (double bass), and Yoav Oved (vocals).

Doors open 7pm. Music starts 8.30pm. The venue is mixed seated and standing. Tables are limited, and available on a first come first served basis, so if you’d like a seat, we recommend arriving early!
