Chloe Matharu is a singer songwriter and Celtic Harpist in Wemyss Bay, Inverclyde. Many of her songs draw on her experience as a Navigational Officer in the Merchant Navy sailing around the world on oil tankers. Her thoughtful and sensitive songwriting offers an insight into the modern seafarer’s life. Chloe’s voice, coupled with her harp playing, form a haunting combination perfectly suited to the reflective nature of her material.
Chloe Matharu’s talent affords a refreshing outlook onto this new tradition of maritime folk music. Her lyrics and melodies will resonate with you long after her performance. Of Scottish, Welsh and Punjabi heritage Chloe sings in both English and Welsh. With sell out shows in the Edinburgh Fringe. In 2021 she has enjoyed playing an exciting line up including venues such as Glad Café Glasgow, Greenote in London, Beacon Arts Centre Inverclyde, McIntosh Club, Helensburgh and Cwtch Café Pembrokeshire to name a few. She also frequently performs corporate events and most recently played a series of gigs for COP26 to high profile clientele. In 2022 she looks forward to a busy gig itinerary including Edinburgh Fringe, Unearthed Festival, Fishguard Folk Festival, Fringe by the Sea as well as a UK tour. She has also been shortlisted for the 2022 English Folk Expo and played Celtic Connections 2022.
She releases her new album, Small Voyages, in September 2022 which features her self penned songs, harp arrangements and field recordings of the natural environment. The release is followed by a UK tour visiting Glad Café Glasgow, Edinburgh Folk Club, Greenote London, Oxford and Redcatch Folk Club Bristol and Cwtch Café in Pembrokeshire, the Wighton in Dundee.
