FINI BEARMAN: ‘…Skilful and accurate… wistful soulfulness’ John Fordham (The Guardian)
Fini Bearman is a London based singer, songwriter, composer & multi-instrumentalist, bridging the gap between folk, jazz and contemporary songwriting into an ‘arresting and uniquely personal’ sound. Her latest offering, La Loba (2020) received glowing reviews from peers and critics alike, including ****’s from Jazzwise (Editors Choice), allaboutjazz, The Arts Desk (album of the year), and more.
‘…La Loba marks Bearman out as one of contemporary music’s most imaginative song stylists…’ (Peter Quinn, Jazzwise)
Spanning a wide range of musical textures and lyrical themes, ‘La Loba’ is infused with world-wide influences, from American folklore, to stories of young children in East Berlin. These are songs about womanhood and childhood; looking for love and finding it; femininity, courage and the life-long journey towards individuation.
Fini’s music calls on a broad scope of influences and refuses to be categorised – from Paul Simon, to Esperanza Spalding, Becca Stevens, and the Punch Brothers, this music is rooted in the tradition of story-telling through song and melody, whilst exploring the luscious and vivid harmonic realms of jazz music.
For tonights performance, Fini (voice and guitar) will be joined by Tom Cawley (piano) & James Maddren (drums).
