SKY COLOURED: Sky Coloured is the performing name of musician and writer, Anthony T Jackson. He released a 6-track EP, ‘in the small hours’, in 2018, featuring a roster of talented London musicians, including jazz trumpeter Emma-Jean Thackray who performed on the single, ‘in dreams’. The record merged a classical sensibility with jazz harmony and a pointed, melancholy lyricism that attracted praise from the likes of Clash and The Quietus.

It was followed by two atmospheric covers released for the Mental Health Foundation in 2019: John Martyn’s ‘Solid Air’ and Nick Drake’s ‘Pink Moon’, and by two synth-driven singles, ‘Desire’, in December 2019, and ‘spirit (seeing you again)’. His 2020 podcast series of audio essays about the history of pop music, The Secret Life of Songs, has had over 10,000 downloads and won bronze in ‘Best Arts and Culture Podcast’ at the 2021 British Podcast Awards. A second EP, ‘As a Pearl’, probes the complexities of musical influence and consumption and was released in November 2023.

Press:

‘a rich sense of sonics, with those jazz flourishes building into something beautiful, but still abstract’ (Clash Magazine)

‘languishes in dreamy solemnity … echoes of artists like Perfume Genius and Antony and the Johnsons’ (The Music Mermaid)

‘polychromatic … delicate’ (Gigsoup)

‘sophisticated Harry Nilsson vs Kiran Leonard-ish songwriting’ (The Quietus)
