Folklore presents…

TRAGEDY ANN is a Forward-looking Folk duo from Guelph, Ontario.

Braiding organic vocal harmonies with organ, accordion, singing saw, and guitars, Tragedy Ann’s arrangements are as delicate as they are driving. Their concerts emanate “…the honesty and enthusiasm of people who can’t help but create and perform.” (Jon Farmer, Georgian Bay Roots).

With their new album “Heirlooms”, Liv Cazzola and Braden Phelan issue a call for deeper connection with each other and with the natural world. Their album release tour brought them across Canada, Germany, Belgium, Norway, and Italy, performing at such venues as the National Arts Centre, Blue Skies Music Festival, and Egersund Visefestival.

“A collective fresh breath was taken as Tragedy Ann took the stage and emanated romance, harmony and joy with such charm and dynamic interplay that the hush became palpable.” — Paul Corby (Roots Music Canada/Corby’s Orbit)

Canadian indie folk songwriter and producer JAKE NICOLL began writing and recording music in his bedroom on his Windows 95 PC in 2003. In 2009 he moved to St John’s Newfoundland and his home studio has become a focal point for the local music industry for close to a decade. In 2016 his double album Half of Nothing/Two Things won the Borealis Prize for best album in St. John’s and set him up as a go-to producer in the local scene. His music is thoughtful and introspective, yet always tinged with a playful sense of experimentation. His most recent album Pool House, released March 2022, is a stripped down, sun-bleached folk adventure recording made on a small suitcase tape recorder in Pasadena, California. He has a new EP titled Ego Trip that will be released January 31st 2024 and a new full length LP coming in Spring 2024.
“With each album released Nicoll has explored a different facet of music, and the music making process, analytically taking it apart, holding it up to the light, and putting it back together to create something distinctly his.” – Sandy May (The Overcast)
