The EL CHAMUYO QUARTET is a London – based group performing a wide sweep of Argentinian tango music, ranging from golden era of the 1920s and ’30s, through to the tango nuevo masterpieces of Piazzolla as well as original music.
While respecting the tradition, El Chamuyo also takes this repertoire as a starting point for improvisation, blurring the boundaries between tango and jazz in exciting and innovative ways.
Not forgetting that this music is rooted in dance, the quartet regularly performs at milongas for tango dancers as well as jazz clubs and concert venues. Most recent performances include POSK Jazz Cafe, Bracknell Jazz, Guildford Jazz Festival, Jamboree( London). The quartet will be an official tango orchestra for the Welsh Tango Nuevo Festival.
