Laurel Canyon together with our friends at Music Makers and ‘Vin’s Night In’ present a ‘Songwriters In The Round’ evening at the multi-award winning Green Note. Our MC for the evening will be Vin Goodwin.
Praised by BBC Head of Music as a “brilliant singer-songwriter,” Albert Man is an “insightful artist to watch” according to Pledge Music’s managing editor Matt Conner. He has established himself as one of the more interesting songwriters on the London gig circuit with avid support from RockShot Magazine, who compared his songs to that of “Ben Folds in verse, wit and chord changes”. The award-winning, Manchester-born singer-songwriter plays both solo and with a full band, writing melodic pop songs described by Fresh On The Net as “sweet piano led shenanigans that come over like the lovechild of Billy Joel and Adam Levine”.
Albert released his eleven-track, self-produced album “Cheap Suit” in 2016, receiving airplay on both FUBAR Radio and BBC radio. The album won the “Best Independent Album” award on the Alternative Friday blog in 2016 and was described as “a wonderful wonderful album” by BBC presenter Ady Dayman. Two songs from this album were also chosen for Tom Robinson’s Fresh Faves.
He has a new six-track EP “Nothing Of Nothing Much” out, recorded at Pete Townshend’s barge studio and has received airplay on BBC Introducing London for his new single “I Feel Like Dancing” twice. The same song was chosen for Tom Robinson’s Fresh Faves on his Fresh On The Net blog in the same week – “I Feel Like Dancing, is the result of a highly professional quality of songwriting that, given the publicity, would easily scale the charts.” – Benji Tranter (Fresh On The Net). The EP has received great reviews from publications such as GigSlutz, RockShot Magazine, Fame Music, XS NOIZE, Fresh On The Net and The Huffington Post, was Song Of The Day in Songwriting Mag and was a feature in iSing Mag. He had a sold out EP launch at St Pancras Old Church and the live recording from the night has been released as a live album, “Live At St Pancras Old Church”.
Albert featured on Best Of British Unsigned as “one to watch” for 2017 saying they “love Albert’s sound”. This was swiftly followed up with him being chosen as their featured artist of the day with presenter Matt Graveling saying “I think Albert Man could be in with a cheeky little shout for best unsigned male in this year’s Unsigned Music Awards 2017.”
He has been on London Live twice and BalconyTV, has played at The O2 Priority Lounge before Muse, The Verdi Room in The Royal Albert Hall, Sofar Sounds Liverpool, The Borderline supporting HamsandwicH, Ronnie Scott’s, Jimmy’s Harvest Festival, The Half Moon Putney, The Barfly, The Garage, The Bedford, Hotel Café Royal, Servant Jazz Quarters, Night and Day in Manchester, The Grand Social in Dublin, Hard Rock Cafe’s 45th birthday and was a finalist in the London Coffee Music Project.
You can catch Albert at many festivals in 2017 including The Great Escape, Liverpool Sound City, Camden Rocks, Jimmy’s Festival, Lake Fest, Meraki Festival, City Sound Project and Alive & VDubbin.
Having been described as “one of the most genuine, hard working artists on the live music scene with a steely work ethic”, he demonstrates this by the frequency at which he performs so keep your eye on his upcoming gigs list (www.albertman.com/gigs) to see when and where he’s playing next!

Bucking the trend with his free-wheeling alternative folk  Franc Cinelli is the songwriters’ songwriter. From uptempo torch songs to blues laden road journals and lovestruck serenades to defiant, prison outlaw ballads; Franc has carved his own musical path.

Franc Cinelli’s new album ‘The Marvel Age’ shows an artist continuing a determined road, not afraid to take chances and experiment. At its core this is a folk record, but its use of rhythms, the twists and turns in the arrangements with their vibrant colours and haunting undertones, create something much more. It has received critical acclaim including Folk Radio UK’s coveted album of the month slot and Resonance FM’s Tin Can Review Top Ten Albums of the year along with a score of fantastic reviews in the UK and Franc’s native Italy. The album was written over the course of Cinelli’s extensive tour in 2013 and 2014 playing throughout the UK, US and his native Italy. The people and places of that tour, from the Strait of Messina to England’s North East are all present throughout these ten songs, as is much of the listening material from the tour, from T Bone Burnett records to the mesmerising Sahara Blues. The album was recorded in his London studio, enlisting the help of his live band Laurence Saywood on bass guitar and Drew Manley on drums.
Following his previous record with Morrissey and Coldplay producer Danton Supple, Franc took the step of recording and producing his own music at his London studio where he also continues to produce a crop of new talent.
The extensive 12-month tour promoting his last record ‘I Have Not Yet Begun To Fight’, which gave birth to this new album, saw him playing shows across UK, Europe and North America. Including sold out shows in New York and London, along with a televised performance at the Blue Note in Milan and two shows at the Royal Albert Hall. He’s gathered support from BBC Radio 2 to WFUV in New York and everywhere in between.
Franc Cinelli was born in Rome and grew up in London since the age of four. His introduction to music came from his mother’s record collection : ”Springsteen, The Police, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd & Bob Marley were the big hitters” he comments.
He started playing the violin when he was about 10 and quit that in favor of the guitar a few years later. Like all good troubadours, he spent a lot of time touring by himself before making records. Not just the length and breadth of the UK (quite literally from Hastings to Stornoway) but throughout the East Coast of the USA, Texas & Tennessee, and in his native Italy. He regards the road as the school of songwriting, and, he adds ”its rather good fun”.
