SUSI EVANS & SZILVIA CSARANKO: Susi Evans (clarinet) & Szilvia Csaranko (accordion & piano) are an international duo performing and teaching klezmer music. Susi lives in London and is a founder member of She’Koyokh and the London Klezmer Quartet. Szilvia was born in Hungary, lives in Hannover, and is the Musical Director of the 80-piece Klezmer Orchestra in Erfurt.
In this programme they play tunes from the repertoire of clarinet legend Dave Tarras, the man who was hailed “the Benny Goodman of klezmer”. From 1925 until his death in 1989, Dave Tarras set the standard for klezmer musicianship and virtuosity. Even the great be-bop artists Charlie Parker and Miles Davis travelled to the Catskills to hear him play. Susi and Szilvia tell tales of his life and perform his compositions and improvisations, as well as traditional tunes that he recorded and played at thousands of Jewish weddings throughout his career.
