THE BASEMENT SESSIONS at Green Note is a new monthly night, filled with brilliant up-and-coming artists that you need to hear. Set in the intimate Basement space within this much-loved venue, you’ll hear the best of what the UK acoustic scene has to offer!
This month featuring…. Duncan Woods + Abimaro + Genevieve Dawson
Duncan Woods, a Zimbabwean born, Australian grown, traveling singer-songwriter, spends his time chasing the sun, living out the Australian and European summers as he performs across the continent and this year now back in the UK promoting his latest release “Chameleon”.
Rhythmic guitar work and quick sharp lyrics are Duncan’s bread and butter play, blending rap and reggae with melodic singer-songwriter styles, trying to bring a little of every and any flavour to the table.
No single show is ever the same, Duncan dials into the moods of the audience, feeding off the energy he is given. On stage he is most at home with just a guitar and a mic, but jumps at any opportunity to share the stage with a band.
Abimaro
From writing short stories as a young girl to studying songwriting at Goldsmith’s University, South London singer/songwriter Abimaro’s lyrical craftsmanship and delicate melodies have set her apart as a talented wordsmith and an evocative performer. Having previously lent her vocals to the likes of Zero 7 & The Cinematic Orchestra, and collaborated with the band ‘Abimaro & the Free’ , she is now embarking on a solo journey. Confessional in nature and green in colour, her new, solo material blends the freedom of the voice & guitar, as it captures the human heart in all its intricacies and complexities.
Genevieve Dawson
Genevieve Dawson is a singer-songwriter originally from Edinburgh and now based in South-East London. Bringing together direct, honest lyrics with a warmth and soulfulness reminiscent of the likes of Laura Marling and Ani DiFranco – these are songs to lose yourself in and wake up full of questions. Her debut EP is due for release later this summer.
